The question I have been asking myself is Who told me this?
It seems like one day we were told something, and we kept it for the next 20 or thirty years. Who told me this? I was raised by my mom, who believed in God and who had the most beautiful voice that I have ever heard. Join me as I break free from the chains of conformity, challenge the narratives that have held me back, and embark on a journey of self-discovery and unapologetic self-expression. That picture was from when we were on vacation years ago. But my mom, who I love. I’m realizing some things that I got from her that I didn’t know until I became an adult. All my life I wanted to fit in, I didn’t create waves, I checked all the boxes. I went to school, graduated, and had the state job. Yes, I did all of that. Little did I know, I’m supposed to create waves. I can’t be anyone else, that’s correct, but I can’t be afraid of what others are going to say because I’m in charge of living my life. I’m at a crossroads here, and I’m tired of being the shy girl behind the scenes.
So, I’m not really at a crossroads, am I? I’m already doing things that are against the grain, I’m embracing the fact that I’m a teacher, writer, influencer, and podcaster, but that’s not all I am. I am looking forward to finding out more about myself. In this life we must ask ourselves who told us things about us or even the life they believe we should live.
Now, I’m not downing my mom. I believe that the life she lived must have been good for her, but I’m determined to have more, just like I want my kids to more. So where do I go from here? Well, I’m going to put myself out there more. Will everyone like me? No, but when you decide to be authentic, the right people will flock towards you.
I still have layers to who I am, but I will still put myself out there. Yes, you will definitely see my name in lights. You will see me on publications with my own column. What else?
